San Antonio Silver Stars Basketball
The San Antonio Silver Stars are a member of the ever more popular WNBA. Starting out in Utah as the Utah Starzz the team found its way to San Antonio in 2003. While not generating nearly the success of their male counterpart the San Antonio Spurs, the Silver Stars now appear to be heading in the right direction under head coach Dan Hughes, more than doubling their win total from 2005 to 2006. As the Silver Stars get ready for their next season in the AT & T Center, optimism is growing that San Antonio’s ladies are on the verge of a breakthrough year.
San Antonio Silver Stars History
Dan Hughes has a strong contingent of players living and working in San Antonio to prepare for the new season. Forward Sophia Young out of Baylor and Guard Shanna Crossley of Tennessee are coming off promising rookie years and should make major strides in 2007. Young led the team last year in both scoring (12ppg) and rebounds (257), while Crossley saw increasing playing time as the season wore on. The addition of Vickie Young and Ruth Hammon gives the Silver Stars more veteran experience than they had previously with just Vickie Johnson.
All in all it looks like a promising season for San Antonio Silver Stars ticket holders. The team has been in San Antonio and working together to build chemistry and the combination of budding talent and veteran savvy just might push the San Antonio Silver Stars into uncharted territory: The WNBA Playoffs.
